Google has a step-by-step guide on how to set up Search Console and authenticate your site. But, to be honest, it’s boring, wordy, and harsh on the eyes. As a result, we’ll provide a more user-friendly instruction. These are all the instructions you’ll ever need to set up Google Search Console correctly.
Let’s start the Set-up :
Step 1: Log in with your Google account to Search Console
If you want to use this approach to set up Search Console, you’ll need a Google account. Don’t worry, it’s also free. You can use the same login if you already have Google Analytics or Gmail.
Step 2: To Add a Property, enter your website’s domain (or URL-Prefix)
After logging in, you may add a property type using either your domain or a URL prefix.
Starting with some key definitions, here’s why:
Property : a catch-all name for a single website, URL, mobile app, or device containing your siteque tracking ID’s uniroot directory (aka public html).
Domain : The name of your website (without the http(s):// and www.) is called a domain. Our website address is raddinteractive.com.
Subdomain : A subdomain is a domain extension, such as www.sitsem.com or seo.sitsem.com, that is appended to a domain.
URL : A URL is a web page’s address. (A domain is the name of a website; a URL is the address of a page on that website.)
URL prefix : The protocol that comes before your domain is known as the URL prefix. http:// or https:// are two examples.
When you use the “Domain” option to set up Search Console, your account becomes a domain-level property.
This means you’re generating a single property that contains all of your domain’s subdomains and protocol prefixes. This option, in other words, connects Google Search Console to every component of your website.
A URL-prefix attribute is created when you select “URL-prefix.”
This implies you’re just creating a single property for your site’s single URL prefix. As a result, Search Console will only be connected to one version of your site – not the entire thing, including all protocols and subdomains – and may not offer correct statistics. However, there are situations when you have no choice but to utilise a URL-prefix.
Enter a URL with a prefix in the field and click “Continue” to create a URL-prefix property.
NOTE: Create a GSC property for each of the following four URLs to guarantee Search Console gives appropriate data with URL-prefix properties:
- https://yourdomain.com
- http://yourdomain.com
- https://www.yourdomain.com
- http://www.yourdomain.com
Step 3: After that, you must verify your website
How to Make Your Website Verifiable
You can verify a site once it’s been added to Search Console in a number of ways:
Upload the HTML file for verification
You can upload an HTML file for Search Console verification if you have access to your site’s root directory. You’ll need to download the HTML file and upload it to the place indicated in the instructions once you’ve chosen this option. To finish the process, select Verify after you’ve uploaded the file.
Verifying through domain name provider
Click your domain provider from the drop-down menu to validate your site, or choose Other for instructions on setting up a DNS TXT record. If your provider does not allow you to establish a DNS TXT record, you can instead construct a CNAME record.
Adding Google Analytics tracking code
You can add a tracking code using your Analytics property if you have a Google Analytics account for reporting on your site and the GA tracking code within the head> of your homepage.
Using Google Tag Manager container snippet
You can use this approach to verify your site in Search Console if you use Google Tag Manager for your site, have “View, Edit, and Manage” rights enabled in your account, and your GTM code is placed after the <body> tag on your site.
Additional Setups for Google Search Console
Depending on your CMS, there are alternative ways to register a Google Search Console account. These are some of them:
- WordPress
- Blogger
- Google Sites
Setup Google Search Console on WordPress
Using an HTML tag and a header plugin, we demonstrated how to check Search Console on WordPress. However, you may use your WordPress SEO plugin to double-check. Yoast SEO and All-in-One SEO are the two most popular SEO plugins.
Here’s how to get Google Search Console to work with each of them:
- Add a URL-prefix property to your GSC account (as show in Steps 1 and 2 above).
- Copy the HTML tag that has been provided.
- For Yoast SEO, follow these steps: Go to SEO>General on your WordPress Dashboard. Select the “Webmaster Tools” tab from the drop-down menu. In the space for Google verification code, paste your HTML element. “Save changes” should be selected. (As shown in the first illustration below.)
- For an all-in-one SEO strategy: Go to All in One SEO>General Settings in your WordPress dashboard. Copy and paste your HTML tag into the Google Webmaster Tools section (what Search Console used to be called). Then press the “Update” button. (As shown in the second illustration below.)
- After saving, Yoast and All-in-One will strip the code, leaving only the tag ID visible.
- Select “Verify” in Google Search Console one again.
Implement Google Search Console on Blogger
Any new Blogger blogs are instantly confirmed in your Search Console account. (As long as you use the same account to administer your Blogger account in Search Console.)
If you have an older Blogger account, you can use the HTML tag method to set up Search Console, as demonstrated above.
